Clinchfield Railroad Timetables
Researched and chronicled by Scott Jessee and Sandhi Kozsuch
Below are some initial timetables from the Clinchfield, both freight and passenger. More will be added in the days ahead.
- 1925 Clinchfield Passenger Timetable with mileposts
- 1941 Clinchfield Passenger and Double Daily Freight Timetables
- 1947 Clinchfield Freight and Passenger Timetables
- 1962 Clinchfield Freight Timetables
Types of Clinchfield Trains
- Odd Numbered: Northbound
- Even Numbered: Southbound
- 1st Class: Passenger and one Perishable Manifest Freight
- 2nd Class: Time Freights, running on daily schedules
- 3rd Class: Through Freights, running slower, with more stops
- 4th Class: Locals, Shifters, Turns, and Mine Runs
- Extras: They are not listed on these timetables, but most of the trains on the Clinchfield ran as Extras. They didn’t run on a schedule, but ran as needed. Many were loaded coal trains, empty coal trains, locals, and mine runs.
- Sections: If business and traffic was heavy, some trains were split into seperate trains to handle more cars. For example, train #94 could run as #194 and #294.

CSX Pocket Timetable Feb 2023 by Thomas Pittman
Thomas Pittman has done an outstanding job of creating a pocket timetable that we all can use to railfan and photograph the CSX Blue Ridge Subdivision. Below is one of the pages of his pocket timetable.
